Risposta del sindaco ai saluti di Tara Ghandi

Gentilissima sig.ra Tara Ghandi Batthacharjee,
con immenso piacere accolgo le Sue parole di saluto. La Sua presenza nel nostro Paese ha reso estremamente suggestiva l’intensità del messaggio di Pace che la Festa del Grano in onore di S.Anna ormai da oltre duecento anni evoca.
Il Grano, peculiare simbolo di identità per la comunità di Jelsi che mi onoro di rappresentare, è il cuore pulsante di un popolo che ha fatto dell’accoglienza e della tolleranza principi di vita applicati quotidianamente.
Nel nostro piccolo la comprensione dell’altro e lo scambio tra tradizioni e culture diverse, permeate attraverso la costante azione delle Scuole, vero alito di vita di una collettività, sono valori che permettono integrazione e convivenza. E la Sua presenza nel nostro comune, con l’onore di accettare il premio La Traglia, nato “per la tutela e per la rivalutazione e cura di una tradizione, del suo ambiente, della tutela dei diritti umani e dell’identità culturale e religiosa delle piccole comunità ed etnie “altre”, ha contribuito in modo determinante al riconoscimento di tali valori.
Grazie alla Sua visita anche la gente del Punjab che da noi vive è oggi più felice, maggiormente consapevole di sentirsi parte integrante di una comunità che fa del reciproco rispetto un canone di civiltà e di vita.
Noi continueremo su questa strada, in attesa di poterLa rincontrare presto.

Dear Madam Tara Ghandi Batthacharjee,
I greatly enjoyed Your greeting words. Your presence in our town has made extremely suggestive the intensity of the peace message that the feast of the Wheat in honour of Sant’Anna has beeen recalling for over two hundred years.
Wheat, the peculiar symbol of the identity for the community of Jelsi that I feel highly honoured to represent, is the beating heart of our people that have daily applied welcome and tolerance as life principles .
In our own small way consideration for other peoples, cultural relationships and traditions exchanges are spread by the steady action of the Schools, the real life breath of a community. These values allow cultural integration and living together.
“La Traglia” Prize came into being out of the need to improve the defence, the care and the revaluation of a tradition, its environment, the defence of human rights and of the cultural and religious identity of small “other” ethnic communities. Your presence in our town, by having the honour of accepting “La Traglia” Prize, has been a decisive factor in recognizing those values.
Thanks to Your visit even the Punjab people, living in Jelsi, are today happier and more aware of joining in a community that considers a fundamental rule of life and civilization: the reciprocal respect.
We’re going to keep it up, looking forward to meeting You again.
